Kaptain Nemo Resurfaces

This week, mysterious undergound (underwater) MC Kaptain Nemo debuted a new track on his Myspace, a collaboration with enigmatic producer Player 1 that has already been compared to early Devo meets later Beastie Boys.  He also announced the forthcoming release of a new album titled “Davy Jones Locker” featuring production by Maker, Player 1, Radius, and Remote Control Frequencies (RCF) and guest appearances by TSLOS all-stars Sharkula and PJ Sumroc.  The album has no official release date yet, but is projected to be released on what has been called “Chicago’s most eclectic record label”, The Secret Life of Sound in early 2010.

The Kaptain had been relatively quiet since his 2007 mixtape collaboration with MC Serch  a succesfull mixtape which received a good deal of notoriety including mentions in XLR8R and URB.  If you missed that, your probably missed this video for “Kiss My Butt” featuring PJ Sumroc and Sharkula.YouTube Preview Image

Player 1 to release new album ‘Mix Minus’ this Fall

frontinsert

WHO IS PLAYER 1?

The Secret Life of Sound and Ragged Dick Productions present their first split-label release, ‘Mix Minus,’ the highly anticipated debut album from Chicago’s reclusive underground engineer, Player 1.

All-original, no-sample, instrumental hip hop, Mix Minus was recorded in a single manic stretch with the mysterious Player 1 on an uncustomary lineup of instruments and behind the board.  Mix Minus features 20 tightly knit, unrelentingly aberrant grooves - elaborately tonic beats from the infamous, mathematical mind of the engimatic Player 1.

Working at a dizzying pace since beginning this mysterious studio project, Player 1 has already completed his second album (and indeed volumes and volumes more) months before his first album is to be released.  His next release is tentatively titled ‘Music for Pornos’

Since 2003, Player 1 has been the head engineer and proprietor of Chicago’s Stray Dog Recording Co, a recording studio catering to indie rock and underground hip-hop artists.  Working prolifically with other TSLOS artists like PJ Sumroc, Remote Control Frequencies, V8, Kaptain Nemo, etc. as well as a large number of Chicago bands and solo artists, Player 1 has been behind the boards for many sessions with a wide variety of artists in many different genres, contributing his technical expertise and an ear for the unusual.

Ragged Dick’s previous release was by recondite art-folk project The Dissappointments.

Youth : Kill #1 most added at hip-hop college radio!!!

“The Promise of Automation”, the debut EP from the duo Youth : Kill ( (K-the-i-??? and Walter Gross) was the #1 most added record at hip-hop college radio last week, according to CMJ (College Music Journal) reporting stations. This is especially impressive considering the often harsh and abrasive nature of the sounds, which fuse Walter Gross’s experimental electronics with the intellectual vocal stylings of MC K-the-i-???

The 10″ vinyl/digital download is available today and you can order it from our friends at Access Hip-Hop
